WWIII: THE BATTLE OF THE BIRTH CANAL

Picture this. The year is 1934. The US is in the throes of the Great Depression. It's springtime in Augusta, and the first Masters, or Augusta National Invitation Tournament, as it was then known, is underway. The legendary Bobby Jones has come out of retirement to compete and CBS Radio is making just its 2nd live broadcast of a golf event.

Across the pond, Hitler is beginning his rise to power, and Europe is descending into chaos and persecution. All-out war soon erupted, embroiling the Germans, Japanese, Americans, and other allies into the greatest conflict the world had ever seen.

Now, 90 years later, the 88th Masters is into its final round, and the Saturday broadcast is interrupted to inform viewers of another attack and the stage is set for yet another global clash.

Atop the leaderboard in Augusta is an American, a Jap, a Jew, a German, and a Brit. Is this tournament some sort of historical metaphor? Will the American and top golfer in the world, Scottie Scheffler, come out on top in this rendition? Or, will one of the Axis powers reign victorious?

There is one key factor that could change the course of history in this blitzkrieg –

The Hindenburg.

Scheffler's wife is nine months pregnant with their first child. If that balloon pops, he claims he will immediately withdraw from the tournament and rush home to welcome his little one into this tumultuous world.

I'm sticking to my word. You only have your first child once." - Scottie Scheffler

Scottie is, no doubt, a man of his word, but we know that, deep down inside, he's hoping that little one shows up late to the party like the French in 1780. Lindsey Limerick, the current leader in the pool standings, agrees.

All eyes are on Augusta as we watch this story unfold this sunny Sunday afternoon. Stay tuned for the final round recap and the Green Jacket ceremony for the 15th Annual Masters Pool.
