Hello friends, and good evening.

Jim Nantz joining you live from Bryson DeChambeau's trailer where he is completing a post-round treatment in his cryo chamber.

In a day that got a late start due to weather, DeChambeau enjoyed a hot start, birdieing the first three holes and five of the last seven. Bryson completed his round with the lowest score thus far at 7-under-par.

“You’ve had the mad scientist phase. You’ve had the bulky basher phase,” a reporter said to DeChambeau Thursday at Augusta National. “What phase do you think you’re in now?”

“The golf phase,” DeChambeau said, “the golf phase for sure.

Trying to be the best golfer I can be.” - Bryson DeChambeau

A professional golfer trying to be good at golf. What a novel and profound concept.

One stroke back from DeChambeau was Scottie Scheffler who carded a bogey-free 66 with birdies on four of the final seven holes. Scottie appeared to take a directly inverse approach to DeChambeau. When asked about his success on the day and over the last several years in general, Scheffler replied, "I'm not a golfer. My life is not all about golf. I am just a guy who happens to play golf."

It will certainly be interesting to see which mental strategy proves most effective as the week unfolds.

Eye of the Tiger

As dusk fell over Augusta National, the horn sounded, signaling that play was adjourned for the day. Twenty-seven golfers, including fan favorite Tiger Woods, will complete their first round on Friday.

Woods managed a decent round, sitting at 1-under through 13. The duct tape, screws, and fused joints gave him notable stability when facing wind gusts often exceeding 30 mph.

The swirling gales proved more challenging for Woods' playing partner, Jason Day, who was nearly swept off his feet when the gusts caught his parachute pants.

Speaking of bold britches – Sergio lit up the links with his Thursday attire. Garcia took the traditional Augusta National color palette to a new extreme, wearing maize yellow pants that would make even Victor Hovland squint (if he wasn't already).

Checking in with the Lion

I had hoped to spend some time with our good friend, John "The Lionheart" Daly this evening; however, he had to cancel his second meet-n-greet at Hooters to meet with his attorneys.

JD's agent texted me earlier and informed me that John's attorneys are filing an NIL lawsuit against Augusta National. When a fan asked Daly to autograph her Masters Gnome earlier today, he was immediately taken aback by the obvious use of his likeness in the tchotchke's design.

"I'm fine with them puttin' my mug on a @#^! yard elf, but they need to have that $&*% holdin' a &%$@! Good Boy Vodka." – John Daly

We'll obviously keep you all apprised of that situation as it unfolds, and hopefully, JD can join us for the morning broadcast. We'll join you at 7:30 am tomorrow to cover the conclusion of Round 1 and the start of Round 2. We'll also dig into the state of the pool and the day one highlights on the gambling front.

Before we call it a night, We'd like to thank our sponsors.
